Source: Herald Democrat, Putnam County, Indiana 14 January 1916 p 6

James M. Wright, son of Jerry and Mary Wright, was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, Jan 11, 1839.  He was 76 years and 11 months old at the time of his death.  He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Sherill Sept 16, 1866.  To this union were born eight children - five having preceded him to the beyond. Those living are: Grover and Laura Foster of Bedford and Anna DeHoram of near Mt. Merdian. Deceased professed a hope in Christ while in the service of his country. He united with the Union Valley Baptist Church more than 25 years ago and lived a consistent member until his death.  He enlisted in the services for his country July 6, 1861 in Co. K, 27th Regt Heavy Artillery Volunteers as a private and was honorably discharged as corporal Jan 10, 1866, on account of the close of the war.  In the death of Brother Wright, the community has lost a kind and respectful neighbor, the church one of her best members.  He was always ready to help the church, both spiritually and financially. The family has lost its best friend. He leaves to mourn his departure a companion, three children, five grandchildren and a host of friends.   ---kbz
